Dr Desaline Joseph

Role on committee: I currently on sit on the British Paediatric Sleep Society Education and Training lead. I have contributed to the national curriculum review for the Health care Scientist STP Master’s programme for Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. I am currently a Consultant in Paediatric Sleep Medicine at Evelina London Children’s Hospital which is part of Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital . I am a national expert in childhood and adolescent sleep disorders. I have helped run a tertiary sleep service, which aims to support paediatric consultants and CAMHS psychiatrists in assessment and management of children and young people with complex, rare and refractory sleep conditions. These include children with complex neurodisability and rare neurological sleep conditions.
I have a research background which includes completing a medical doctorate in the ontogeny of circadian rhythms, including examination of clock gene expression, core body temperature patterns, the day-night excretion hormones critical to sleep and rhythm development (melatonin and cortisol) and the use of actigraphy in children.
I am passionate about education and the role it has in training future generations of sleep professionals in the UK.
